Sunday

Busy day here - house cleaned top to bottom and then I whipped up a buffet for some friends we had coming over. This is me at the end of the day - I am exhausted but had a great day. Just planning my items for the capsule wardrobe challenge that starts tomorrow.

I was thinking today as I was trying to decide what to include in my capsule wardrobe that I used to be a girl who never, ever wore anything except jeans. I remember people being really surprised on the very rare occasions they saw me in skirts. I have totally changed and absolutely love skirts and dresses now. I love feeling more feminine and find that they are so much more versatile and can be dressed up or down so much more easily.

On another fashion note, I was trying my outfit on for Saturday's party to try to decide whether to have hair up or down and I got completely stuck in it. The zip broke and I had to cut myself out of it. I am totally gutted because I loved the dress. I am going to try to fix it if I can but I don't have time to do it before Saturday. I have no idea when I am going to wear and no money really to buy anything else. So incredibly frustrating. I think I will have to make an emergency dash to the shops some time this week to get something.

INSET Day

I have all three little ones at home today due to a school INSET day. I have already had to kick them out into the garden to run off steam! Hopefully if I keep them really busy and energetic this morning they will settle down to watch the next few episodes of the Dogtanian DVD this afternoon.

Tights and leggings are a lovely warm combination I'm discovering. Maybe the skirts needn't go away completely just yet.

Fashion and Babywearing

Ok, I am an big fan of babywearing and have worn Pips since she was a baby. I didn't know enough about it to do it with the boys unfortunately but am glad I have had a chance to see how fantastic it can be. My biggest problem is that I have two slings: this one and an orange pouch sling, but nothing goes with them! I am not a multi-coloured stripey kind of person. Now, the question is, should the sling be a fashion accessory for the mum or is it a fashion accessory for the child?

Proud Mama Day

My fabulous and gorgeous middle baby had his first school assembly today and he was brilliant in it. I am super proud Mummy today. I am absolutely freezing today and wondering if perhaps I should put the skirts away for the rest of Winter.

Now all I need is an office

This is another of my bargain skirts today. It fits absolutely perfectly which is so rare for me and skirts. I added the jacket for warmth when doing the station run this morning, but think I prefer it without. I also prefer it without the long sleeved top but on a day like today there is no way I am venturing outside with no arm coverage. I am still looking for a replacement for these boots so until I find the prefect pair at the perfect price I'll be getting wet feet! I was thinking about it last night and realised that I do wear black and white alot. I know it suits me, but I think maybe adding some different coloured belts and accessories could give me a more interesting look.
And finally, I have had a breakthrough.........Alan actually said he thought it was great that I put so much effort in instead of throwing on jeans and a T-shirt everyday! I wasn't sure he'd even noticed.

Sunday Shopping

I picked up this skirt in the Primark sale. Now I just can't resist a Primark sale - their stuff is cheap full price but at sale prices they are virtually paying you to take them away!! This was £5 I got another two skirts for £3 each. I also got some new Pyjamas, but I don't think you need to see those.
We actually went shopping for suits for Al, but I managed to convince him to buy things for me. He did get one nice suit though and men in suits make me go weak at the knees so it was a rather good day!

Defined by Footwear

I have realised the problem. Heels define me. I feel uncomfortable, unattractive and just not me in my flat boots. They are comfy, they are practical, I need them for walking to and from school, but I don't feel like me in them. How totally shallow am I? Here I have the same outfit, the only difference is the boots, yet I feel like a different and happier woman in the boots.

Wednesday

Don't know what's going on with my clothes at the moment. Have been trying to dress less like a slapper and more my age but do not feel like myself at all and yesterday I failed miserably on both counts. Maybe it's because I don't feel like a grown up yet. I think in my head I'm still about 14. Ah well, enough psychobabble for one day.

Early Mornings Begin

I am feeling surprisingly bright this morning. Astounding given that I barely slept because I was so worried about oversleeping and making Al miss his train. Anyway, managed the first early morning station run and it was fine. (It's quite nice he can't just arrive home and catch me doing anything naughty - my secret chocolate stash is MINE!!!!!)

Oh and these are the other £3 boots.

Grunge makes a comeback

I was reading this article in The Independent yesterday and am so pleased that grunge is making a comeback. I was in my early teens when grunge was a huge thing and I am totally behind any fashion trend which allows you to literally roll out of bed, throw on any old crap and claim it is fashion! I do this most days anyway, now I can say I am following the latest trend. But seriously. I don't know if I can really see myself wearing DMs, floral skirts and a lumberjack shirt every day like I used to. I do still have my Nirvana beanie though so you never know.....

Feeling a bit Rock Chick

As I had to take the car today I thought I'd give my new shoes their first daytime wearing. With the skinnies, they just scream rock chick at me!

New Boots

Just chilling out again today, more writing, maybe a walk down by the canal and then a roast with my parents. Thought I would show you these boots I picked up yesterday for a most fabulous £3! I also got another similar pair in brown for the same price. I do really need some more decent long boots to replace my black ones but I am going to wait to find the perfect pair - so sorry Alan the boot buying is not over yet (and it never will be if I get my way mwah ha ha ha ha).

Chill Out Saturday

It appears all my tops are starting to shrink - I always seem to have my tummy exposed when I wear them. It was ok when I was 15, but at 28 I think I just need to replace them and keep myself covered up! Errand running today, been to buy Beaver uniform for my eldest and have coat shopping for the middle one later. The excitement never ends chez Kirkham.

Brown and Black

I think I have only worn this dress once, maybe twice at most. It's really unlike me, I tend to wear my clothes again and again. I have put it on lots of times and decided it wasn't right. I'm still not entirely convinced it is very flattering on me. I find that most dresses have the same problems on me - too big in the bust and waist and too tight on the hips. It's a good job I strongly believe that Queeen were right and fat-bottomed girls do actually make the rockin' world go round.

A Little More Human

Some would say that I never reach the giddy heights of 'normal' so I will settle for feeling much more human today. I noticed Kasmira as been bringing back the poncho with style so I am joining in to spread the trend this side of the Atlantic.

No Photo Day

No picture today because, quite frankly, I look and feel like crap and as the writer of this blog I am priveledged to be able to hide the days I look this shockingly awful.

Back tomorrow I hope.

Rainy Monday

It's pouring with rain again today. I chickened out of walking to school but will do this afternoon. I love these boots (admittedly the worst Christmas present Alan has ever been given free for me, and believe me it takes alot to beat cappuccino mugs and scented candles!) but they really make you work. As I may have said before the school run for me is about a mile and over some really steep hills. These boots have steel toe caps which make them really heavy and gives the legs a great work out.

Success and shoe love

I will save the dress I found as a surprise for you lovely readers on the day I go to the party. However, I just cannot contain my excitement and the quite disturbing lust I am feeling for these shoes I just got. I saw them in the Summer, tried them on and loved them. Even Alan, who is not known for his affection for my footwear (in fact he thinks 2 pairs would be quite enough) admitted they were a pretty sexy pair of shoes. I just couldn't justify the £60 price tag - so when I saw them for £30 today I nearly wet myself with joy and, had I not been wearing 4 inch stilletto boots, I would have run to the cash point to pay for them.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm............my precious

F F F Friday!

I feel like I look a total mess today but not really much time to do anything about it. I am aiming to get to 10,000 words in my novel today so will be busy busy busy. Off to toddlers with Pips this morning though - I need the biscuits to keep my creative juices flowing! (well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!)

The Crocs Have it

I rarely wear my crocs out and about anymore but they were the only option this morning - the blisters are agony and with the strap at the front the rubber monstrosities don't touch the area at all. Bliss!

Damn you flat boots

I got up ridiculously early this morning because I had promised to cook the children porridge for their breakfast. So we had loads of time to walk to school rather than taking the car. I thought I would be sensible and put on my little purple pixie boots because they were flat so better for walking. How wrong was I?! I now have the most gigantic blisters on both my heels. Fortunately my friend kindly took pity on me and drove Pips and I home, however I seem to have volunteered for a job on the PTFA in the process! So from now on I am sticking to heels for the comfort value!

Tuesday

I had a great day of shopping planned with The Boot Queen today but unfortunately had to cancel because of workmen coming to fix my front door. However, I have a friend coming over this afternoon who I haven't seen since the Summer so that will be lovely.

This is one of those outfits that looked completely different in my head to what it does in reality. Really not sure about the second dress. Think I should probably have stuck with just the jumper dress. I am braving the black boots because it's not actually raining at the moment. Have got some great ideas about what to replace them with though thanks to my boots advisor.

Birthday Party

My Mum had a birthday party today so we all headed over there for lunch and to see the rest of the family. It was a really lovely day and we even managed to get a pic of us all together. However, this weekend hasn't been all great because my black boots have started leaking and I managed to rip my denim skirt!
